Terms
Terms of use
The whole agreement, in the fewest words it can honestly be put in.
Your work stays yours
Everything you write — manuscripts, queries, notes, profile text — belongs to you. Putting it into Project Virgil grants only what is needed to run the service for you: storing it, showing it back to you, and publishing the specific parts you have chosen to make public on your own card.
Your account
One account per person. Keep your sign-in details to yourself.
You are responsible for what is done from your account, including anything you add to the shared directory.
You can delete your account, and your records, at any time from inside the app.
The shared directory
The directory of agents, agencies, journals and events is built by writers together. Two rules make that possible:
Record what is published, not what is private. Add what an agent or venue has said publicly about their own submissions. Do not add personal contact details, private correspondence, or anything you were told in confidence.
No abuse of the people in it. Entries describe how a market works, not what you think of an individual. Anything defamatory, harassing or invented gets removed.
Directory information is contributed by other writers and can be wrong or out of date. Always check an agency’s own submissions page before you send anything — it is the only authoritative source, and nothing here replaces it.
What is not promised
Project Virgil is provided as it is, free, by one person. It is not guaranteed to be available at all times, and it does not promise that the information in it is accurate or current. Keep your own backups of anything you cannot afford to lose — the export tools are there for exactly that, and using them occasionally is sensible with any service, including this one.
Nothing here is legal, financial or professional advice about publishing.
Ending it
You can stop using the service and delete your account whenever you like. Accounts used to spam, scrape the directory wholesale, or abuse other writers can be closed.
