About
Built by someone in the middle of it
Project Virgil is made by one writer, for writers doing the same thing — sending work out and waiting.
It started the way most of these things do: a spreadsheet that could not answer the question “who should I be chasing this week?” Querying produces a surprising amount of administration — dozens of agents, each with their own rules, their own response times and their own idea of what to send — and almost none of it fits in rows and columns. What you actually have is a set of relationships with people, unfolding over months, and nothing on the market treated it that way.
What it is trying to be
A calm place to keep the whole thing. Not a productivity system, not a course, not a community with a subscription attached to it. Every feature has to answer a question a writer is actually asking at 11pm — what is out, what is overdue, what happens now that somebody has offered.
What it will not do
It will not sell your work, your notes, or your list. Your private notes, your tiers and your connection details are yours; other writers do not see them.
It will not impersonate agents. The directory records what agents have said publicly about their own submissions. Every agent name in an example or a screenshot on this site is invented.
It will not charge you to be read. A literary agent is paid a commission out of money they earn for you; if money is moving from you to an agent, something is wrong, whatever the website calls it.
Vox Novum
Project Virgil is a Vox Novum project, built by Whiskered Writer. Vox Novum is the parent and the domain; the application has its own name.
