Every query is a letter to a stranger.

Project Virgil keeps every letter, every reply and every day you wait, and lights the long way to yes one step at a time. For novelists querying agents, and writers sending short work to journals.

Free to use. The demo opens the real app with sample data in it, so you can see every page before you decide — you can look around, but nothing you type is kept. Keeping your own queries, dates and notes is what an account is for.

The long way to yes.

Querying is months of waiting and dozens of people. The numbers matter, and so does the judgment. Virgil keeps both, and puts a light on the one thing worth doing today.

Your home page

One lit step, waiting when you wake.

Worked out from your own dates and replies: who to answer, who to nudge, what closes this week. What can wait says so, and a quiet week says it is a quiet week, then shows you what is open.

Every day

You always know what day you’re on.

Every wait is set against the days that agent says they take, or, if they don’t say, against when writers here usually hear a pass. Go past the days they give and the wait changes colour, so a late one stands out. And the no’s are counted honestly too.

When you open a record

Their record on the left. Your pages on the right.

Open an agent full screen and it opens like a book: on the left, what writers here have seen of them; on the right, your own pages: where you stand, your next step, your notes.

Always

Company on the road.

A shared directory kept honest by the writers who use it. When writers here hear from agents you’ve queried, you know those agents are active. It names the agents, never the writers.

On Charts, when you want it

Your season, in orbit.

Pick a book and every query circles it, the furthest along closest in. Press Replay and the season plays back from your own dated history. Step back and every project you have sent circles you the same way. Your home page keeps a small one: what is in orbit this fortnight.

Across everything you write

Writers don’t work on one book.

Query a novel and send stories and poems at the same time. When one is quiet, the home page shows what else is open to you.
